The
Digital Valve Controller is designed to provide a state of the
art valve controller with features
to improve reliability and modernize current systems. The Digital
Valve control System provides:
- Automatic Back-up Control
- Automated "Bumpless" Transfer
- Data on Valve Capacity / Port Opening
- Advanced Monitoring & Data Logging
- Event Logging
- Response time tests
- Partial stroke tests
- Thrust control
- Variable Configuration
- Health Monitoring
|
A comprehensive solution for all valve management needs.
The Peerless DVC is compatible with: |
- Single/Double Disc Slide Valves
- Plug Valves
|
Redundant Controllers
and Power Supplies with Automatic Switchover
Each DVC supports an optional Backup controller. If the Primary
controller can no longer position the valve, the Backup controller
will automatically take over and restore operation.
User friendly "Windows like" Operator
Interface
A 5.5 inch color, quarter VGA display provides a friendly "Windows
like" Graphical
User Interface (GUI). The GUI interface is controlled via three
pushbuttons and an optical shaft encoder (multi-function wheel)
located on the front of the DVC. All embedded features of the
DVC can be accessed and controlled via the front panel without
the need for handheld devices, opening the controller enclosure,
or connecting to a laptop computer.
- Friendly user interface using...
- Pushbuttons
- List boxes
- Custom indicators and controls
- Important information is always visible,
e.g.:
- Valve position, valve port open area, fault indicator

 |
Ethernet, 4-20mA and Modbus Communications
The DVC supports Ethernet, 4-20mA and Modbus communications.
Remote monitoring and troubleshooting of the DVC are available
via an Ethernet communications link to a laptop or the control
room. This feature works with a point-to-point connection, over
a LAN or through the Internet.
Self-Diagnostics
Extensive hardware and software tests ensure
proper operation and aid the operator in installing,
positioning and troubleshooting the system.
Response Time Test
Using the DVC
menu screen, an operator can select a Valve Time
Response test in which the valve is dynamically
stepped -5%, then +10% and then -5% back to its
original position. As a result, a time response
curve is generated which displays time vs. position
and thrust valve vs. time during the test. Deviations
from normal may reveal a defective valve or help
predict future failures.
Software Based Setup
Using the DVC front panel GUI or NetDVC™ Windows application
program the operator can configure the DVC to suit a wide range
of systems. For example, optional sensors can be individually
enabled or disabled which allows the DVC to replace obsolete
controllers with minimal changes to the system. As sensors are
added they can be enabled without modifying the DVC hardware
or software. All setup information is stored in flash memory
within the DVC. Setup information can be transferred to a laptop
for analysis, modification and storage. Stored setup files can
be transferred to a DVC as part of initial setup, troubleshooting
or recovery.
Software Based Calibration
Using the front panel GUI or NetDVC™ application
program, the operator may calibrate all of the
DVC's sensors and outputs. All calibration information
is stored in flash memory within the DVC.
- Easily calibrate all analog inputs and outputs
- Calibrate without opening the controller
enclosure
- Uses simple two point linear calibration
- No hardware adjustments required (No
potentiometers)
- Programmable analog ranges, valve control
parameters, limits and set points

Enclosures
Hazardous locations, weather tight and purged enclosures
available.
Event Logging/Fault Stacking
The DVC typically stores an entire year's worth of events, including alarms,
faults and operator actions in flash memory within the DVC. The time of occurrence
and a description of the events are provided. Events can be viewed using the
DVC front panel GUI or the NetDVC™ application program.
- Stores up to 1 year's events with
date and time stamp
- System Events
- Operator Events
- Local control
- Change setup
- Set clock
- Fault Events / Fault Stack
- Alarms
- Failures
- Lists faults with date
and time stamp
- Faults can be cleared
|
 |
System Health Monitoring
A "Fault Stack" is provided for capturing failures. Failures
are stored in the "Fault
Stack" in the order that they occurred. After reviewing the failures
the operator can clear the "Fault Stack". An indicator located
on the front panel GUI changes from green to red to alert the
operator of failures on the "Fault Stack".
Automated "Bumpless Transfer"
The DVC provides Automated "Bumpless Transfer" when transferring
control from a remote source to local DVC control.
Additionally, the DVC provides a bumpless transfer when transferring
control from the local DVC to a remote source by ensuring the
control signals are the same before allowing the transfer.
Calculates Valve Capacity and Port
Opening
Valve capacity and port opening are calculated
using a 10 point piece-wise linear equation. When
positioning the valve the operator provides the
valve port opening at 10 predefined points of travel.
This information is stored in flash memory.
Calculates Opening and Closing Thrust
Values
Opening and closing thrust values are calculated
and compared to limits to ensure safe operation.
When positioning the valve the operator provides
the valve cylinder parameters and operating limits.
This information is stored in flash memory. A Thrust
Limiting algorithm is included for Plug Valves to
ensure that safe thrust levels are maintained during
thermal expansion.
Supports Both English and Metric Units
The DVC GUI can be set to display values in English
or Metric units.
Net DVC Remote Monitoring, Control and Troubleshooting
The NetDVC™ Windows based application program
provides full access to all DVC capabilities. This
feature works with a point-to-point connection, over
a LAN or through the Internet. Using NetDVC™,
a remote operator can view what is being displayed on the DVC
front panel display and control the DVC via a virtual front panel.
The virtual front panel provides the same operator interface
as the DVC front panel. Utilizing the larger display, keyboard
and mouse of a remote computer, NetDVC™ provides user friendly
screens for monitoring, controlling and configuring the DVC.
For troubleshooting, NetDVC™ provides unlimited
data logging of all DVC parameters, remote control of all inputs
and outputs and automatic time response tests.
